Confeuro urges EU to provide structural support for farmers amid climate challenges

Andrea Tiso, president of the European Farmers' Confederation (Confeuro), has called for concrete and structural actions from the European Union to support the agricultural sector following a difficult summer of extreme weather. While acknowledging statements made by EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen, Tiso emphasized that words must be followed by tangible results.

Confeuro is urging the EU to implement decisive interventions through the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Key priorities include improving water resource management, upgrading infrastructure for water storage and distribution, and promoting the use of technology and artificial intelligence to combat recurring heatwaves and droughts.

Additionally, the confederation advocates for soil management that aligns with natural cycles and the promotion of resilient crops. Tiso stressed that the costs of the climate transition should not fall solely on farmers, calling for adequate resources, programming, and tools to protect and revitalize the European primary sector.
