Italy labor market: New contract archives and regional employment shifts

Various developments are impacting the Italian labor market and consumer rights. The Centro Studi Confintesa has launched an online archive containing 215 national collective labor agreements (CCNL) to combat ‘pirate contracts’—agreements that provide lower pay and fewer protections regardless of the signing union.

In corporate news, the Bolton Group has reached an agreement with unions (FAI, FLAI, and UILA) for a supplementary contract covering 2026–2029. The deal includes increased participation bonuses, higher meal vouchers, and new committees to address the impact of artificial intelligence on work organization. Meanwhile, in Emilia-Romagna, a new agreement for the mechanical artisan sector covers 54,000 workers, introducing productivity bonuses and measures for gender equality.

Conversely, labor tensions are rising in other sectors. In Matera, unions have declared a state of agitation following the announcement of 350 layoffs at the Callmat call center. Regional employment data also shows a decline in the Marche region, where a drop in self-employed workers has led to a decrease in overall employment, particularly affecting women.

In the financial sector, Altroconsumo is calling for greater competition and transparency in payment systems, specifically addressing difficulties consumers face with non-Italian IBANs and the SEPA Direct Debit system.
