Confucius birthday ceremonies held in Taiwan and the United States
Traditional ceremonies were held in Pingtung, Taiwan, and Los Angeles, USA, to commemorate the 2,576th birthday of Confucius. These Shidian ceremonies followed ancient rites to honor the philosopher and promote Confucian values.
In Pingtung, the ceremony took place at the Pingtung Academy. Led by County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi, the event involved students from five local schools performing the Six-Line Dance. International exchange students from countries including Germany, Austria, Brazil, and the United States participated to experience the traditional culture.
In Los Angeles, the Southern California Confucius Ceremony Committee organized a large-scale event at the Chinese Cultural Center. The ceremony included traditional musical performances, ritual dances, and the reading of prayers. Organizers emphasized the importance of Confucian teachings, such as “benevolence” and “harmony,” as tools to address modern social divisions and promote peace among younger generations.
