CONG requests 10% budget increase for Senasica
The National Confederation of Livestock Organizations (CONG) is requesting a 10% increase in the budget for the National Service for Health, Safety and Quality in Agro-food (Senasica) in the upcoming national expenditure budget. Homero García de la Llata, president of CONG, stated that while current resources have been used appropriately, additional funding is necessary to combat livestock challenges such as the screwworm, brucellosis, tuberculosis, ticks, and avian influenza.
Data indicates that funding for sanitary services in Mexico has faced declines since 2018. In that year, Senasica received 6,884.4 million pesos, a figure that has not been surpassed in subsequent budget allocations. Juan Carlos Anaya, director general of the Agricultural Market Consulting Group (GCMA), emphasized that Senasica should be viewed as a matter of national security, as it guarantees the health and safety of national production, imports, and exports.
