Congo and Gabon promote standardization to drive industrial growth

In observance of World Standards Day, officials in the Republic of the Congo and Gabon have emphasized the critical role of technical standardization in driving industrial growth and economic competitiveness.

In the Republic of the Congo, Minister of Industrial Development Michel Djombo called for public administrations to integrate standards into policy and urged businesses to view quality as an investment. He noted that the government is working to build a national standardization and quality management system to support economic diversification, particularly in the agri-food and organic sectors. This initiative includes the establishment of a national conformity mark for both local and imported products to ensure consumer safety and business credibility.

Similarly, in Gabon, former Minister of Industry and Local Transformation Lubin Ntoutoume highlighted standardization as a tool for economic trust and a lever for industrial competitiveness. He stated that for an economy to successfully transform its natural resources, it must guarantee product quality and process reliability. The Gabonese approach focuses on making quality a national production imperative and using conformity to facilitate market access and productive sovereignty.
