Congo health workers' strike intensifies amid wage dispute, doctors suspend walkout

Health workers' unions in the Republic of the Congo have escalated their strike actions, threatening a total paralysis of health services if wage and working‑condition demands are not met. The alliance And Gueusseum, led by secretary‑general Mballo Dia Thiam, announced a radical second phase of the strike and warned of possible “perlite” strikes, suspension of minimum service, and boycott of coordination sessions.

Meanwhile, the Free Doctors’ Union (SYLIMED) announced a two‑week truce, citing verification of salary regularisation and progress on other demands after talks with the Ministry of Budget. SYLIMED’s secretary‑general Dr. André Kasango urged members to check their July pay slips, but warned the truce could end if promised reforms are not fully implemented.
