Congo launches study to electrify Special Economic Zones
The Republic of the Congo has initiated a technical study to address energy requirements within its Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Presided over by Michel Djombo, the Minister of Industrial Development, SEZs, and Private Sector Promotion, the initiative aims to evaluate and secure an estimated 805 MW of electrical capacity to support industrial production.
Minister Djombo noted that energy shortages currently act as a primary barrier to investment, preventing many companies from realizing economic projects. The study intends to quantify energy demand to design efficient solutions, extending its scope to include local industries such as forestry companies operating near these zones.
In a separate development in Brazzaville, the government also introduced a five-year Skills Development Program for Youth Employability. This program targets one million people aged 16 to 35 across fifteen departments, focusing on digital skills, agriculture, and craftsmanship. The initiative includes partnerships with private entities like MTN Congo and Mbtp, with support from United Nations representatives.
