Congo partners with UNICEF and AfDB on sanitation initiative

In Brazzaville, the Congolese Minister of Urban Sanitation, Local Development, and Road Maintenance, Juste Désiré Mondélé, met with UNICEF representative Mariavittoria Ballotta to discuss the establishment of a ‘sanitation facility.’ Supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB), this initiative aims to provide families with the necessary resources to install sanitation services in their homes.

An upcoming technical workshop in early October will involve UNICEF, the AfDB, and relevant ministerial technical teams to co-create this facility. Additionally, UNICEF will provide technical expertise through the WASH mechanism to identify funding needs and available resources in the water, hygiene, and sanitation sectors, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Discussions also focused on integrating sanitation more deeply into the next National Development Plan (PND) to improve child health and well-being. Separately, the Minister met with an AfDB mission led by economist Olivier Béguy to discuss public policy implementation and its role in strengthening resilience.
