Congo to host inaugural SICOM media salon in 2026
The inaugural Salon International de l’information, de la communication et des médias (SICOM) is scheduled to take place from September 17 to 19, 2026, at the Kintélé International Conference Centre in the Republic of the Congo.
Organized by Association Hope and led by General Commissioner Gildas Mayela, the event aims to address the evolution of the media landscape, focusing on themes of witnessing, production, training, and innovation. The salon will explore the transition from traditional print and broadcasting to the digital age and the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism.
The event also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the law regarding freedom of information and communication, which decriminalized the profession in 2001. Under the patronage of President Denis Sassou-Nguesso, the salon intends to facilitate knowledge transfer between veteran journalists and the new generation of digital practitioners. During the event, the President is expected to receive a special award for press freedom.
