Congress approves motion to protect Altamira salt industry

The Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union has approved a motion proposed by Senator Olga Patricia Sosa Ruíz to preserve and strengthen the traditional salt industry in Altamira, Tamaulipas.

Senator Sosa Ruíz emphasized that protecting this sector is essential for safeguarding the heritage and livelihoods of hundreds of local families. She noted that the initiative aims to promote the salt industry as a driver for economic and tourism development in southern Tamaulipas, ensuring it remains viable despite urban and industrial growth in the region.
