Congress Working Committee meets to strategize against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) held a high-level meeting in New Delhi to strategize against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the central government. Chaired by Mallikarjun Kharge, the meeting included senior leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

The party is demanding the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that he is acting under the influence of the ruling BJP. Congress leaders have raised serious concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, including alleged irregularities in voter list additions and deletions, changes to Form 6 for new voter enrollment, and centralized control over the electoral database.

Some party members, including West Bengal in-charge Deepak Joshi, have characterized the CEC's actions as treasonous. Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA Bloc is expected to coordinate a joint strategy, potentially including a parliamentary notice for the CEC's removal.

The Election Commission has defended its processes, stating that internal differences and differing views among commissioners are a normal part of institutional deliberations and that all orders follow statutory procedures.
