Congress demands accountability in Ram Mandir donation theft case

The Congress party has intensified its criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party regarding the alleged theft of donations intended for the Ram Mandir. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that religious offerings represent the faith of the nation and are not private property, demanding that the full truth behind the theft be revealed and those responsible be punished.

The opposition has raised three primary questions: whether filing charges against eight individuals is sufficient, why an independent investigation into the financial management of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has not been conducted, and why the government is reportedly avoiding further investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court.

Ramesh noted that while a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was initially formed at the request of the Trust, the subsequent handling of the investigation has raised concerns. He highlighted that despite findings in preliminary reports, Trust leadership has publicly defended individuals associated with the BJP, RSS, and VHP, specifically citing comments made by Treasurer Govind Dev Giri.
