Congress leader Rahul Gandhi set to visit Tamil Nadu on August 1

Congress leader and Lok Sabha opposition head Rahul Gandhi will travel to Tamil Nadu on August 1 to attend the closing function of a ten‑day party training camp for newly appointed district presidents in Mamallapuram. He arrived at Chennai airport from Kochi and was welcomed by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B Manickam Tagore, who said the visit will energise party cadres in the state.

The trip follows the Congress’s recent entry into the Tamil Nadu government led by TVK and comes after Gandhi’s earlier visit in May for the swearing‑in of Chief Minister C Vijay. AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, who announced the visit, also called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to explain a police lathi‑charge on students on July 20. The visit underscores the party’s effort to strengthen its organisational base ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
