Congress leaders allege electoral malpractice in Assam
Congress leaders Bhupesh Baghel and Gaurav Gogoi have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of electoral irregularities, including vote theft, rigging, and EVM hacking. The allegations follow the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election and the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections in Assam.
During a press conference in Guwahati, Baghel claimed that the ruling party used intimidation and interference with the Election Commission and district administration to influence results. He further alleged that polling agents were forced from booths and supporters were prevented from voting. Baghel described the recent electoral outcomes as a “victory of theft.”
The leaders also addressed the upcoming “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” rally scheduled for November 1 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan. Gogoi alleged that the central government, specifically Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, expressed apprehension regarding the potential political impact of the large-scale gathering.
