Congress leadership faces scrutiny over ties to Left student activists
The Indian National Congress is facing internal scrutiny following the increased visibility of Left-affiliated student leaders within its high-profile campaigns. Neha Bora, the national president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA)—the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation—has appeared prominently alongside senior leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Bora’s presence during an Opposition march to the Supreme Court has sparked debate regarding the party’s political strategy and its relationship with traditional grassroots organizers. While the leadership appears to be utilizing activists from outside its own structure to project a united front and attract new constituencies, the move has caused friction within the party’s own youth wing, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).
Critics within the party express concern that elevating ideologically distinct external activists may marginalize established Congress organizers and internal cadre who have built influence through years of organizational work.
