Congress party calls meeting to plan protests over Election Commission irregularities
The Indian National Congress has scheduled a meeting of all AICC in-charges and Pradesh Congress Committee chiefs for October 5 in New Delhi. The meeting aims to coordinate a strategy for upcoming agitations regarding the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The party is protesting the electoral-roll revision process, alleging irregularities and demanding action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress leaders claim the integrity of elections is being compromised. These allegations follow reports suggesting internal objections were raised by other Election Commissioners regarding procedures related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
In Uttarakhand, Congress leader Qazi Nizamuddin has also raised concerns, alleging that targeted deletions of names are occurring during electoral roll revisions. He suggested that irregularities are occurring at multiple levels, from the ECI to state election commissions. In response to these issues, the INDIA bloc has announced a nationwide ‘Save Democracy March’ at the district level from October 2 to October 8, with opposition MPs planning to march to the Election Commission on October 6.
