Congress Wins All Five Karnataka Legislative Council Seats

In the Karnataka Legislative Council elections, the Congress party secured a clean sweep, winning all five seats it contested. The BJP managed to capture two seats, while the Janata Dal (Secular) failed to win any. The results were attributed to cross‑voting by several BJP and JD(S) legislators in favor of Congress candidates, boosting their totals beyond expectations. Party leaders hailed the outcome as a significant political victory for the state government led by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, while opposition figures prepared to challenge the voting pattern.

The election saw a total of 222 votes cast, with one ballot rejected for improper marking. Congress candidates received between 30 and 32 votes each, whereas the BJP winners garnered 27–29 votes. JD(S) candidate Govindaraju received only 14 votes after vote transfers.
