Congress workers arrested for defacing CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s residence

Police in Agra have registered a case involving charges of attempt to murder, rioting, and causing grievous hurt against approximately 20 Congress workers following a protest at the ancestral residence of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

During the demonstration, which was part of a nationwide agitation by the Congress party, protesters allegedly defaced the property by writing slogans such as “Gyanesh Gaddar, Gyanesh Chor” (Gyanesh traitor, Gyanesh thief) on the walls and main gate using black paint and spray paint. The Indian Youth Congress stated the protest was a response to allegations regarding the looting of elections.

Six individuals, including Congress leaders Anil Yadav and Mukesh Dhangar, have been arrested and sent to jail. The case was filed at the Hariparvat police station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Congress city president Amit Singh has criticized the police for invoking severe charges, claiming they are false, and has planned to meet with the police commissioner to demand their removal.
