Congressman Adriano Espaillat Gains Endorsements from Dominican Leaders Ahead of NY Democratic Primary

Community activist Elida Almonte, a prominent Dominican leader in New York, called on the Dominican diaspora to vote for Congressman Adriano Espaillat in the June 23 Democratic primary. She highlighted his long‑standing assistance to the community, citing his role in securing $250,000 for the Inwood Heights housing complex, supporting the designation of Washington Heights as a Dominican historic district, and backing legislation such as the Occupations North‑American Act and the Americas Trade and Investment Act.

Lawrence, Massachusetts mayor Brian A. DePeña echoed the appeal, urging Dominicans both in the United States and the Dominican Republic to "nationalize" their voting sentiment in favor of Espaillat. DePeña warned of a "betrayal" by political rivals and praised Espaillat’s work after Hurricane Fiona, his advocacy for tourism, and his support for health, education and housing initiatives that have benefited thousands of New Yorkers.

Both leaders framed the primary as a crucial moment for Dominican representation and urged unified support for Espaillat.
