Congressman Andy Ogles targeted by green‑energy super PAC in Tennessee Republican primary

U.S. Representative Andy Ogles, a Freedom Caucus member from Tennessee’s 5th District, is facing a coordinated campaign by out‑of‑state green‑energy investors. The Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC, chaired by CleanChoice Energy CEO Tom Matzzie, has spent nearly $700,000 and plans to spend about $1 million to support former state Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher and to run negative ads against Ogles in the Aug. 6 Republican primary.

Major donors include San Francisco billionaire Chris Larsen, co‑founder of Ripple, who has contributed over $5 million to the PAC, and former DOE loan‑program director Jigar Shah, who gave $50,000. Matzzie says the spending is meant to warn other lawmakers that “extremist” energy positions are being monitored by the industry.
