CONICET laboratory in La Plata achieves international accreditation

The Laboratory for Diagnosis, Research, and Dissemination of Rare Diseases (DIEL), part of the Institute of Immunological and Pathophysiological Studies (IIFP) under CONICET and the National University of La Plata, has achieved international accreditation under the IRAM-ISO 15189 standard.

This certification, granted by the Argentine Accreditation Body (OAA), marks the first time a clinical genetics laboratory within an Argentine public university and CONICET has received this recognition. The accreditation validates the laboratory’s technical competence in determining alpha-galactosidase A enzymatic activity in leukocytes, a critical component for diagnosing Fabry disease.

Technical Director Paula Rozenfeld stated that the achievement followed more than three years of work to implement a quality management system focused on standardization, traceability, and risk reduction. The DIEL laboratory serves patients nationwide, specializing in the diagnosis of rare diseases that are often difficult to detect and treat early.
