Conitec evaluates including sotatercept in Brazil's SUS
The National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies in the Unified Health System (Conitec) has opened a public consultation to evaluate the inclusion of the drug sotatercept into the Brazilian public health network. The medication is intended for the treatment of adult patients suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
The request for incorporation was submitted by the drug's manufacturer. It targets adults in WHO functional classes III or IV who face intermediate to high mortality risks, specifically those using dual therapy with intolerance to prostacyclins or those on triple therapy. Sotatercept works by acting on the growth mechanism of blood vessel cells to address the narrowing of pulmonary vessels caused by PAH.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a rare, chronic, and progressive disease that increases pressure in the blood vessels leading from the heart to the lungs. If left untreated, it can lead to heart failure and death. Civil society and the medical community are invited to submit contributions regarding the drug's inclusion until August 17, 2026.
