Conitec recommends iptacopana for PNH treatment in Brazil

During its 30th extraordinary meeting on August 19, 2026, Brazil’s National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies in the SUS (Conitec) concluded an evaluation of care options for Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH).

Conitec recommended the incorporation of iptacopana, an oral medication for patients experiencing persistent symptoms despite using a C5 inhibitor. This marks the first time the SUS will have a second-line treatment option for PNH.

However, the Commission also recommended the exclusion of ravulizumabe from the SUS. This decision was based on changes to the price parameter of the comparator drug due to the productive development partnership for eculizumab. Additionally, the Commission decided not to incorporate crovalimabe or pegcetacoplana. Critics note that ravulizumabe, which was incorporated in March 2024, has yet to effectively reach patients through formal channels.
