CONMEBOL and CONCACAF to launch intercontinental club tournament

South American federation CONMEBOL and North American federation CONCACAF are working together on a new club competition that would bring the champions of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana against top teams from Major League Soccer and Mexico's Liga MX. The proposed format is a four‑team “Final Four” knockout event designed to fit within the crowded club calendar while delivering high‑profile matchups.

Organisers see the tournament as a way to raise the sporting level between the continents and to tap the lucrative U.S., Mexican and Canadian markets through ticket sales, sponsorship and broadcast rights. However, they still need to resolve scheduling conflicts, commercial agreements and the harmonisation of competition rules before the event can be confirmed.
