Connecticut man charged with felony drug possession after I-684 incident

A Connecticut man, Virgil J. Naveda, 56, faces felony drug and misdemeanor lewdness charges following an incident at an I-684 rest area in Bedford, New York. New York State Police responded to the southbound Bedford Service Area on September 22 following reports of public lewdness.

Officers reported finding Naveda naked and exhibiting signs of impairment. After administering field sobriety tests, police took Naveda into custody and impounded his vehicle. An inventory search of the car uncovered approximately 66 grams of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), 49 grams of butanediol, 7 grams of methamphetamine, and various drug paraphernalia.

Naveda has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (a Class B felony), seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of public lewdness, and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. He was arraigned in Bedford Town Court and released on his own recognizance, with a scheduled court appearance on September 30.
