Connecticut Republicans propose three-month gas tax holiday

Connecticut Republicans are calling on Governor Ned Lamont and legislative Democrats to implement a three-month suspension of the state’s gasoline and diesel fuel taxes through the end of the year. House Minority Leader Vincent Candelora and Senate Minority Leader Stephen Harding proposed the measure to alleviate rising costs for motorists and job creators.

According to AAA, Connecticut residents are currently paying an average of $4.48 per gallon for regular gasoline and $6.48 for diesel. Republicans estimate that a tax pause would save a typical motorist approximately $2.75 per gasoline fill-up and roughly double that amount for diesel drivers.
