Connecticut Sun to relocate to Houston after 24 seasons

The Connecticut Sun played their final game in Uncasville, Connecticut, on September 24, 2026, marking the end of a 24-season era. The team secured a 95-81 victory over the Toronto Tempo in their farewell match at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

The Mohegan Tribe, which purchased the franchise in 2003 for $10 million, is relocating the team to Texas. Following a $300 million deal with Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, the franchise will become the Houston Comets starting in the 2027 WNBA season. The sale and relocation were approved by the WNBA and NBA boards of governors in May.

The move is intended to strengthen the tribe’s balance sheet as they manage substantial debt. For the Mohegan community, the team served as a significant platform for sharing tribal language, culture, and values over more than two decades.
