Connor Hellebuyck expected to hold out from Winnipeg Jets training camp

Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is expected to hold out from the team’s upcoming training camp following his public trade request. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner and 2024-25 NHL MVP reportedly intends to sit out to pressure general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff into facilitating a move to a new team.

Reports indicate that while several teams have expressed interest, the Winnipeg Jets have been disappointed by what have been described as “terrible” and “low-ball” trade offers. Hellebuyck has reportedly expressed a desire not to play in Canada and is not interested in a trade to the Ottawa Senators.

Potential landing spots mentioned include the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, San Jose Sharks, Utah Mammoth, and Colorado Avalanche. The Hurricanes have been noted as a potential favorite in negotiations, possibly involving a package including goaltenders and defenseman Alexander Nikishin. If the holdout continues, Hellebuyck will forfeit his $8.5 million salary for the duration of his absence.
