Connor Hellebuyck requests trade from Winnipeg Jets

Connor Hellebuyck, the 2025 NHL Hart Trophy and Vezina Trophy winner, has publicly requested a trade from the Winnipeg Jets. In a statement released through his agent, Ray Petkau, Hellebuyck revealed that he had privately requested the move several months ago but decided to go public as the NHL training camp approaches.

Hellebuyck, an Olympic gold medalist with Team USA, expressed gratitude for his 11-season career in Winnipeg but stated that a change is the best path forward for him and his family. He noted that he had attempted to handle the situation with respect and discretion to allow the organization time to explore options.

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff responded to the announcement, acknowledging Hellebuyck’s desire for a change and expressing respect for his accomplishments with the franchise. While the team is working through the situation, no official update regarding a trade has been provided.

Speculation regarding potential landing spots has included the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, and New Jersey Devils. Hellebuyck remains under contract with the Jets through the 2030-31 season with an average annual salary of $8.5 million.
