Connor Watson's Grand Final availability uncertain after HIA upgrade
Sydney Roosters player Connor Watson faces uncertainty regarding his availability for the NRL Grand Final following a head injury assessment (HIA) during the preliminary final against the Dolphins.
During the 36-20 victory at Suncorp Stadium, Watson sustained a head knock after just one minute on the field. While the injury was initially classified as a Category 2 HIA, an independent doctor subsequently upgraded the assessment to Category 1. This classification triggers an 11-day mandatory stand-down period, which would prevent Watson from participating in next week’s season decider in Sydney.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson indicated that the club may appeal the decision and is awaiting further test results. Robinson told reporters, “Watch this space,” noting that Watson is currently undergoing additional testing to determine his status.
