Conor Kennedy placed on Russia's wanted list for fighting in Ukraine

Russia has placed Conor Kennedy, the 32-year-old son of US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., on its international wanted list. The Basmanny District Court in Moscow authorized his arrest in absentia on August 12.

Kennedy is accused of acting as a mercenary under the Russian Criminal Code for his service in Ukraine’s International Legion during the 2022 invasion. If detained, he faces a prison sentence of seven to ten years. While Kennedy’s lawyer appealed the decision, the court upheld the ruling.

Kennedy, a great-nephew of former President John F. Kennedy, had previously shared on social media that he joined the legion despite having no prior military experience. He stated he wanted to help after being moved by the situation in Ukraine. The International Legion, which Kennedy served in, was disbanded in February 2026, with its foreign volunteers transferred to regular Ukrainian military units.
