Conor McGregor's UFC 329 Return Faces Skepticism from Fellow Fighters

Conor McGregor is scheduled to face Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 on July 11 in Las Vegas, marking his first UFC appearance since a leg fracture in 2021. Veteran fighters have voiced doubts about his readiness. Jorge Masvidal said, “Will McGregor make it into the cage against Max? I’m going to say no. I don’t think so, playboy,” pointing to McGregor’s long layoff and age. Former UFC competitor Brad Pickett added, “Conor is not the type of person who will pull out of a fight… I’m just hoping he gets to the fight, first of all,” noting the physical decline that can accompany a return at 37.

McGregor, however, appears confident, telling the media, “No disrespect Max, you’re not gonna lay a glove on me… I’m gonna laugh in your face.” The bout is the centerpiece of International Fight Week and pits McGregor against an opponent who has stayed consistently active, heightening the intrigue around his comeback.

Both Masvidal and Pickett highlighted that Holloway’s recent competition schedule contrasts sharply with McGregor’s extended time away, suggesting the fight will test the Irishman’s ability to perform at his former elite level.
