Conrad Sangma responds to W. R. Kharlukhi's resignation from NPP
Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People's Party (NPP) president Conrad Sangma has responded to the resignation of former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. W. R. Kharlukhi from the party. Sangma stated that while he is personally saddened by the sudden departure, he respects Kharlukhi’s decision as a personal choice.
Sangma noted a long-standing professional relationship with Kharlukhi that dates back to the tenure of his late father, P. A. Sangma. He recalled that his father had previously hoped Kharlukhi would serve as a Rajya Sabha MP, an opportunity Kharlukhi had declined in the past. Sangma had eventually facilitated his election to the Parliament to ensure an experienced political figure could voice the party's concerns.
Addressing the impact on the party, Sangma remarked that “people will come and people will go” and emphasized that the NPP will continue its work. He indicated that party leaders may discuss the matter further to decide if any follow-up actions are necessary.
