Conrad Thompson critiques WWE focus on investors over fans

Podcast host and business owner Conrad Thompson has criticized the current direction of WWE, suggesting the company has shifted its focus toward investors rather than wrestling fans. Speaking during an interview with Ariel Helwani, Thompson noted that while the financial performance of WWE and its parent company, TKO Group Holdings, is “unbelievable and hugely successful and phenomenal,” the product itself has become less engaging for longtime fans.

Thompson contrasted WWE’s approach with that of All Elite Wrestling (AEW), stating, “AEW is making wrestling for fans, and I think WWE is making wrestling for investors.” He attributed some of this shift to the increased monetization of shows, including more frequent advertisement breaks and sponsorship integration.

Thompson also discussed the challenges of international expansion, noting that while international crowds provide a superior atmosphere, the lack of sponsorship opportunities in certain markets creates a business imbalance that must be managed.
