Consacá selected as Colombian candidate for UN Best Tourism Villages 2026
The municipality of Consacá, located in the Nariño department of Colombia, has been selected as one of eight candidates to represent the country in the Best Tourism Villages 2026 program.
This global initiative, led by the United Nations, aims to recognize territories that preserve cultural and natural heritage while promoting community values and sustainability. To qualify, candidate villages must maintain a low population density, typically not exceeding 15,000 inhabitants, and be situated in landscapes characterized by traditional activities such as agriculture, forestry, livestock, or fishing.
An international advisory council of experts evaluates nominees based on several criteria, including economic, social, and environmental sustainability, tourism development, infrastructure, connectivity, and health and safety. The selection of Consacá was facilitated through the Colombian Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism.
