Consejo de la Comunicación and Scotiabank award Mexican student entrepreneurs
The Consejo de la Comunicación and Scotiabank México, through its ScotiaRISE social investment fund, recognized the winners of the ‘Voz de los Emprendedores’ National Contest. The competition received 260 proposals from students across various higher education institutions in Mexico, aiming to foster an entrepreneurial culture and support sustainable projects with community impact.
The top three winning projects include:
1. ‘E-COCO FILTRO’ from the Instituto Tecnológico de Oaxaca, which uses coconut shells to improve water quality. 2. ‘SMART FARMING: INNOVACIÓN AVÍCOLA’ from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, utilizing IoT hardware and free software to monitor poultry production in Puebla. 3. ‘DERMACELL BioMatrix MX’, a collaborative biotechnology project from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Colegio Luz del Tepeyac, and Universidad Teletón, focused on sustainable bioactive medical dressings.
Winners received economic incentives of up to 50,000 Mexican pesos. During the ceremony, Senator Karla Toledo highlighted the systemic challenges facing young entrepreneurs, noting that high bureaucracy and limited access to financing remain significant barriers to transforming academic ideas into viable businesses.
