Consejo General de Colegios Farmacéuticos launches medication safety campaign

The General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges (CGCOF), in collaboration with the laboratory Cinfa, has launched a national campaign titled ‘SPD. Every dose counts’ to promote Personalized Dosage Systems (SPD). The initiative aims to raise awareness among patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals regarding the importance of these systems in improving therapeutic adherence and reducing medication errors.

An SPD is a blister device prepared directly in community pharmacies that organizes solid medication by day of the week and specific times (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and night) according to medical prescriptions. This service is particularly beneficial for vulnerable groups, including chronic patients on complex regimens, the elderly, and dependent individuals, as it minimizes confusion and duplication of doses.

The campaign includes a series of four informative videos distributed via social media and digital channels. The process involves a rigorous pharmaceutical service where pharmacists conduct initial patient interviews and evaluate complete medication regimens—including herbal medicines and supplements—to detect potential interactions before repackaging the drugs to ensure safety.
