Traffic safety regulations and education initiatives expand in Brazil and Portugal

Brazil has implemented a new resolution from the National Traffic Council (Contran) that allows students to obtain driver's licenses for categories A (motorcycles) and B (passenger vehicles) using accredited autonomous instructors. This change removes the mandatory requirement to use driving schools for practical lessons, potentially reducing costs for candidates by up to 80%. Digital platforms are already emerging to connect students with independent, Detran-accredited instructors.

In conjunction with National Traffic Week, various regional initiatives are promoting road safety. In João Pessoa, Semob-JP is offering free motorcycle safety courses, while cities like Conselheiro Lafaiete and Ipatinga are conducting educational campaigns in schools and through public blitzes. In Portugal, the Maia Municipal Police released a children's book to promote road safety awareness among younger citizens.

Other local efforts include workshops for women to learn basic vehicle mechanics in São José to increase driving autonomy and safety.
