Consell de Mallorca demands reopening of museum archaeology rooms

The Consell de Mallorca has called on the Spanish government to unblock and accelerate the museological project for the archaeology rooms of the Museu de Mallorca, which have remained closed to the public for several years.

Antònia Roca, Vice President of the Consell and Counselor of Culture and Heritage, criticized the Ministry of Culture for the lack of progress on the project despite repeated requests since 2023. Roca stated, “Mallorca cannot continue waiting. We have archaeology rooms closed and citizens who cannot enjoy an essential part of their heritage because the Government of Spain is not advancing on a project that is its responsibility.”

The Museu de Mallorca is a state-owned institution housing one of the island's most significant archaeological collections, covering periods from prehistory to later eras. The pending project aims to modernize the presentation of these collections to make them more accessible and updated, but the lack of ministerial action has left these key heritage sites inaccessible.
