Conservation efforts for manatees in Cuba and Mexican cultural festival in Spain

In Cuba, specialists at the Lansanillo Pajonal Fragoso Wildlife Refuge are launching a month-long program in September to promote the conservation of the endangered Caribbean manatee. The initiative aims to raise awareness through educational talks, audiovisual presentations, and community engagement, including meetings with local fishermen and the creation of educational murals. These efforts follow reports of manatee deaths within the refuge, which spans the coast from Encrucijada to Caibarién.

In Spain, the MUSA México Festival is being hosted at the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) in Tenerife. The festival offers free cultural activities, including Mexican cinema, music, and dance, to highlight the historical and cultural ties between Mexico and the Canary Islands. Programming includes film screenings, performances exploring the history of cochineal, and traditional folk music to foster intercultural dialogue.
