Conservation efforts intensify in Ecuador and Bolivia

In Ecuador, the Tungurahua Provincial Government has strengthened coordination with the Kichwa Kisapincha People and local parish governments to protect the Pilisurco-Sawatoa paramo ecosystem. Through the Paramo Management Plan, authorities conducted technical inspections to address issues such as unauthorized livestock movement and the maintenance of protective fences. The agreements focus on respecting ecosystem boundaries, controlling animal density near water sources, and preserving biodiversity.

In Bolivia, the National Service of Protected Areas (Sernap) conducted an intervention in the Suapi sector to protect the Pilón Lajas Biosphere Reserve and Community Indigenous Territory. Supported by the Armed Forces and the Tsimane Mosetene Regional Council, the operation aimed to identify and prevent illegal activities, including potential mining, that threaten the area's water sources and biodiversity. Authorities stated they will proceed with legal notifications if unauthorized activities are confirmed.
