Conservation initiatives launch for ecosystems in Uruguay and Chile

In Uruguay, the Centro Universitario Regional del Este (CURE), in collaboration with the local Butiá Route Committee, is hosting a course in Guichón focused on the conservation and sustainable use of Butiá Yatay and Butiá Odorata palm groves. The 20-hour program, offered by the Universidad de la República, aims to strengthen local capacities for ecosystem valuation and promote the exchange of experiences regarding these habitats.

In Chile, the Centro de Estudio y Conservación del Patrimonio Natural (CECPAN) has launched the “Tras las huellas del pudú” environmental education initiative in the Chiloé Archipelago. Funded by the Ministry of the Environment, the program uses workshops and educational units to teach students about the pudú deer, its native forest habitat, and the human activities that threaten its survival. The project includes the distribution of educational materials to schools to foster autonomous conservation efforts.
