Conservationists protest wolf hunting in Asturias
Conservation groups are criticizing recent wolf control actions in the La Cobertoria area of Asturias, Spain. The organization Lobo 21 denounced the killing of wolves in the region, sparking a debate over wildlife management policies.
Conservationist Marcos L. Rúa has publicly questioned the Asturian government's criteria for authorizing these hunts. Rúa argues that the conflict between wolves and livestock should be managed through preventive measures, scientific knowledge, and conservation efforts rather than through hunting.
The Principality of Asturias currently maintains an active population control policy. Following modifications to the II Management Plan approved this summer, a new program aims to extract up to 67 specimens by the end of the period.
