Conservative candidate proposes transferring immigration powers to Quebec
Régis Gaudreault, the Conservative Party of Canada candidate for the Chicoutimi-Le Fjord by-election, has presented a plan to transfer full authority over temporary immigration to the provincial government.
Accompanied by MP Gabriel Hardy, Gaudreault argued that the proposal aims to provide small and medium-sized enterprises in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region with greater predictability regarding foreign workers. The plan advocates for a more simplified process and a model of responsible federalism that returns powers to the provinces. Hardy criticized previous liberal policies, characterizing them as centralizing and intensive in their approach to immigration.
