Conservative Chatbot and Automation Bias Highlight AI Oversight Risks

Two recent analyses examine how AI systems can reinforce existing viewpoints and undermine human oversight. One piece describes an invitation to help train a chatbot that would consistently deliver conservative answers, noting that such projects expose how easily language models can be steered toward a particular worldview and raise concerns about the manipulability of AI.

A second article focuses on automation bias, the tendency for users to over‑trust automated suggestions. It outlines commission errors (accepting faulty AI advice) and omission errors (ceasing to monitor AI output), arguing that these biases erode the effectiveness of “human‑in‑the‑loop” designs. The author proposes the LoopRails framework—Guard, Show, Prove—to mitigate these risks and restore meaningful review of AI actions.
