Conservative Party proposes free weekend parking in Copenhagen
The Conservative People's Party in Copenhagen has proposed making street parking free from Saturday at midnight until Monday at 08:00, as well as on public holidays. This proposal aims to remove barriers for families, cultural life, shops, and restaurants.
Currently, the first hour of parking is free from Saturday at 17:00 to Monday at 08:00. The party's alternative proposal seeks to extend this period significantly. While the plan was not included in the 2027 budget agreement supported by eight other parties, the Conservatives intend to present an alternative budget on Thursday, October 1, claiming the measure is fully financed through different municipal priorities.
Morten Melchiors, the party's group leader in Copenhagen, stated that the party believes climate measures should be addressed through structural changes in municipal infrastructure and procurement rather than making daily life more difficult for residents.
