Conservatives urge approval of Jackdaw and Rosebank oil fields

The Conservative Party has called on the Prime Minister to approve the Jackdaw and Rosebank oil and gas fields, urging the government to end what they describe as “dithering” regarding North Sea energy projects.

Shadow energy secretary Andrew Bowie demanded that the government lift the ban on new North Sea drilling licenses and scrap the Energy Profits Levy, also known as the windfall tax. The Conservatives argue that current policies are “bleeding the North Sea of investment” and that reversing these measures could unlock 2.9 billion barrels of oil and gas, generate £165 billion in economic value, and protect 200,000 skilled jobs.

The party specifically criticized delays in approving the Jackdaw gas field, noting that the platform is “99%” complete. They alleged that the decision was previously delayed due to political concerns regarding the Green Party following the Holborn and St Pancras by-election.
