Consorzio di sviluppo industriale adopts plan for former GKN site
The Consorzio di sviluppo industriale della Piana fiorentina has formally adopted a regulatory plan for the former GKN industrial area in the Florence plain. The urban planning tool covers approximately 40,000 square meters and designates the entire site for productive and industrial use.
The plan classifies planned facilities and settlements as matters of urgent public utility. A portion of the territory will be reserved for the Consortium, which is composed entirely of public entities, to serve as both a controller and a direct developer. This reserved area is intended to host two main functions: productive activities and a technological hub designed to support businesses and industrialization processes.
To facilitate concrete industrial projects, the Consortium has launched a public call for expressions of interest from production entities. The new regulatory framework includes a requirement for the Consortium to provide a preliminary conformity opinion for any project seeking to settle in the area. Additionally, the plan introduces a reward system that links building increases to achievements in energy sustainability, productive investment, and employment impact.
