Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia launches training academy

The Consorzio di Tutela Vini DOC Sicilia has launched the DOC Sicilia Academy, a strategic training initiative designed to enhance the competitiveness of the region's wine industry. The program, fully funded by the Consortium, focuses on equipping approximately 8,000 winegrowers and 500 bottlers with specialized skills to navigate a changing global market.

Key areas of the curriculum include enotourism, technological innovation in winemaking processes, and energy efficiency. By expanding into enotourism, wineries aim to leverage Sicily's strong tourism sector—which saw accommodation saturation rates reach 63% during the summer season—to transform production sites into hospitality destinations. Director Camillo Pugliesi stated that the academy provides concrete tools to address challenges ranging from consumer relations to sustainable cost management.

Sicily currently stands as Italy's largest organic wine region, with over 42,000 hectares dedicated to sustainable, organic, or integrated production, accounting for 30% of the national total.
