Moldova recovers only 5% of court-ordered damages from Șor network
Authorities in Moldova have recovered only approximately 5% of the total damages ordered by courts in cases involving the Șor network. Out of an estimated 244 million lei owed by 23 convicted members, only about 12.5 million lei have been added to the state budget as of late August 2026.
Significant portions of the recovered funds stem from the case of Leonid Vaca, a former bodyguard of Ilan Șor, who was convicted of illegal political party financing. Investigators previously seized millions of lei from a conspiracy apartment in Chișinău, intended for distribution to party associates. While some funds have been transferred to the budget, the vast majority of the court-ordered assets remain unrecovered after seven years of legal proceedings.
